swimming in lemon yellow allamanda blossoms, fountains,
and curving passageways, Tiffany stained-glass mural and
200 year-old human size Italian chess pieces. The 15
rooms are equally atmospheric: cedar ceilings, bamboo
platform beds - and the long, lamp lit terrace is
wonderful at night, when you can look across
bristling palms to the moon drenched waters of St. Thomas
Harbor."

The hotel was designed by an Italian architect in a Spanish motif and constructed with Danish and African labor.It took over ten years to build and was finally completed in 1829. The gardens have been recently restored to splendor. The lush tropical gardens have been designed for special events, weddings and the enjoyment of our hotel guests. In addition to private baths, air conditioning, and cable television, many rooms have private balconies while others surround the pool. Blending textures, the hotel's original old stone walls remain exposed in some rooms as an effective decorator touch.

Hotel 1829's bar
was formerly the kitchen of the
old mansion. It is famous for Guests enjoy a continental breakfast before a fun day of Caribbean activities. Includes muffins, fruit, cereal, yogurt, coffee and more. During the winter high-season, Hotel 1829 guests have free access to the amenities at Blackbeard's Castle: pools, lounge, tropical grounds and historic adjacent properties. (Blackbeard's Castle is not always open during the summer season.) Our dining room is exclusively for private parties. The hotel is focused on adults, and is not suited for children under 12. |
